Your Reality Is Your Stories…Are They True?

As I am reading through a phenomenal book right now, “Loving What Is” by Byron Katie I had to share my insight with all of you today.

Have you ever stopped and thought about your existence and specifically your Insurance Agency and that the reality is based on the stories you create around it. Your reaction, your interpretation and ultimately the story you believe TRUE or FALSE. All of our existence is a matter of our interpretation of the stories we create in our own minds, nothing less and nothing more.

I challenge you today, especially if you are struggling at an aspect of your Insurance Agency….rates, product offering, sales results, staffing/team members. Take that specific situation and put them up against the following 4 questions:

  1. Is it true? (Yes or No. If your answer is no, move to Question 3)
  2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true? (Yes or No)
  3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
  4. Who would you be without the thought?

Let me give you an example: My Company/Carrier doesn’t care for me, they give me uncompetitive rates,      terrible rates, the customer service department is against me and not                supportive!

  1. Is it true? YES
  2. Can I absolutely know that it’s true? NO
  3. How do I react, what happens, when I believe this thought? I get upset, in a bad mood, I am not positive, I am mean to my staff and my spouse and I feel defeated.
  4. Who would I be without this thought? I could be productive, positive, happy, focused on what I can control, and better to be around.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER TODAY: Where in your life are you not questioning the stories you are telling yourself? Is your reality in your Agency/Business based on stories that COULD be false? When is the last time you questioned your emotions? Can you know with 100% certainty that your stories are TRUE? What could be possible for you if you answered these simple (NOT EASY) questions in every situation of your life?

Brian, it is a phenomenal book. A bit deep so I recommend finding a quiet place to let the content sink in. Also, make sure and utilize the tools she makes available in the book from her website!
